ইন্দ্ৰৰ নাতি কোনো কোনোৰ মতে পুত্ৰ খুনলুং আৰু খুনলাইক দেৱৰাজ ইন্দ্ৰই চন্দ্ৰ-সূৰ্য্যৰ দৰে তেওঁৰো বংশধৰে সমভুমি শাসন কৰক বুলি সৰগৰ পৰা সোণৰ শিকলিৰে ধৰালৈ নমাই পঠিয়াইছিল। লগত দৈৱিক সম্পত্তিও প্ৰদান কৰিলে। সেই সম্পদতসমূহ আছিল, চোমদেও দেৱতা, হেঙ্গদাং নামৰ অস্ত্ৰ, এযোৰ ঢাক বাদ্য, মঙ্গল চাবৰ বাবে দুযোৰ কুকুৰা । এই সকলোবোৰ সম্পদৰ মাহাত্ম্য আৰু ব্যৱহাৰৰ কথা খুনলুং আৰু খুনলাইক শিকাই  পঠাইছিল। ইন্দ্ৰদেৱতাই চোমদেওৰ বিষয়ে কৈছিল - চোমদেও দেৱতাক নিতৌ পূজা আৰাধনা কৰিব লাগিব। নিতৌ পূজা কৰাৰ উপৰিও প্ৰতি বছৰে মাঘ আৰু চ‘তৰ সংক্ৰান্তিত বগা বস্ত্ৰ পৰিধান কৰি, নিয়ম মতে চোমদেওক উলিয়াই আনি গাখীৰ আৰু গাঠিয়ন নামৰ এবিধ সুগন্ধি শিপা মিশ্ৰণেৰে ভালকৈ ধুই পূজা কৰিবলৈ কলে। এইদৰে সাত্ত্বিক ভাৱেৰে পূজা কৰিলে আঠ লক্ষ দেৱতা সৰগৰ পৰা সেইদিনা  নামিব।ইন্দ্ৰদেৱতাই ওপৰৰ পৰাই সেই পূজা চাব বুলিও কলে। চোমদেওক স্নান কৰা পানী সকলোৰে গাত চতিয়াব আৰু ভক্তিৰে সেই পানী খাব। চোমদেওক যেতিয়াই তেতিয়াই চুব আৰু চাব নালাগিব। আনকো চুব-চাব দিব নালাগিব। অন্যলোকে চুলে বা চালে দেশত অমঙ্গল আৰু মাৰি-মৰক হ’ব। মাত্ৰ যিজন ৰজাৰ জিম্মাত চোমদেও থাকিব তেওঁহে বছেৰেকত এবাৰ চাব পাৰিব।

যেহেতু, চোমদেওক কোনেও চাব নোৱাৰিছিল সেয়েহে চোমদেওনো আচলতে কি, কোনেও কব নোৱাৰে। আহোম বা টাই ভাষাত  এই দেৱতাক চোমদেও বা চোমচেঙ্গ নোবোলে চুমচেঙ্গ হে বোলে। চুমচেঙ্গৰ অৰ্থ হৈছে (চুম-অমূল্য, চেঙ্গ-জহৰ বা বিষ) অমূল্য-জহৰ বা ৰত্ন। এই চোমদেও-দেৱতা আহোমসকলৰ জাতীয় সম্পত্তি। ইয়াত কাৰো অধিকাৰ নাই। যেয়ে ৰাজপাটত উঠিব চোমদেওক তেওঁৱেই সজত্নে ৰখাৰ নিয়ম। সেয়েহে চোমদেওক শেষ আহোম স্বৰ্গদেও পুৰনন্দৰ সিংহৰ নাতিয়েক কন্দৰ্পেশ্বৰ সিংহৰ জিম্মাত গুৱাহাটীতে আছিল।

চোমদেও বৰ্তমান ক’ত আছে ?  

শ শ বছৰ ধৰি আহোমসকলে পূজা-অৰ্চনা কৰি অহা ইন্দ্ৰ প্ৰদত্ত চোমদেও বৰ্তমান ক’ত আছে আৰু কি অৱস্তাত আছে ? চোমদেও প্ৰকৃততে কি ? ধাতু নে বহু মূল্যবান পাথৰ ।  চোমদেওৰ পৰা জ্যোতি ওলায়, সাপ-বাঘ আদি প্ৰাণী ওচৰলৈ নাহে বুলি কৰা বৰ্ণনা পঢ়িলে বহু মূল্যবান হীৰা যেন লাগে। আজি এহেজাৰ বছৰ ধৰি চোমদেও অসমতে আছে যদিও, চোমদেওনো প্ৰকৃততে কি পদাৰ্থৰ সেই বিষয়ে উন্মুখ হোৱা নাই। বুৰঞ্জীবিদ হিতেশ্বৰ বৰবৰুৱাৰ মতে পুৰনন্দৰ সিংহৰ বংশ লোপ পোৱা বাবে, তেখেতৰ ভায়েকৰ বংশৰ চন্দ্ৰনাৰায়ণ সিংহ ৰাজকুমাৰৰ পৰিয়ালৰ জিম্মাত বৰ্তমানেও আছে। চোমদেওক কোনেও প্ৰত্যক্ষ কৰিব নোৱাৰা নিয়ম থকাৰ বাবে চোমদেওক চাবলৈ কোনেও সাহস কৰা নাই । সেয়েহে চোমদেওনো আচলতে কি সেই বিষয়ে কোনেও থিৰাংকৈ ক‘ব নোৱাৰে। ইন্দ্ৰদেৱতাই আহোমসকলৰ উপৰিপুৰুষক দিয়া ঘাইমূৰ্ত্তি এতিয়াও অক্ষত অৱস্থাত আছেনে?

অৱশ্যে আখ্যানমতে খুনলুং আৰু খুনলাইৰ মাজত কোন ৰজা হব সেই লৈ কাজিয়া লাগিছিল। খুনলায়ে চক্ৰান্ত কৰি ৰজা হোৱাৰ বাবে খুনলুঙে খঙতে চোমদেও মূৰ্তি চুৰি কৰি ইন্দ্ৰৰ ওচৰলৈ পলাই গৈছিল বুলি উল্লেখ আছে। পিছত খুনলুঙক ইন্দ্ৰদেৱতাই মুংখমুংজাও দেশত ৰজা পাতি দিছিল। কিন্ত চোমদেও মৰ্তিৰ বিষয়ে উল্লেখ পোৱা নাযায়। পুনৰ চুকাফা অসমলৈ অহাৰ সময়ত চোমদেওক লগত আনিছিল বুলি উল্লেখ পোৱা যায়।

What is Chomdeo? Where is Chomdeo now?

According to Some  Khunlung and Khunlai were Indra's  grandsons and some other believes that they were Indra’s sons, whom sent down from heaven to earth  with golden chains by Indra, the king of the gods, so that his descendants would rule the earth like the Chandrabangshi and the Suryabangshi. He also gave them divine possessions. The treasure included the god Chomdeo, a weapon called Hengdang, a pair of dhak instruments, and two chickens to look for auspiciousness. He taught Khunlung and Khunlai the importance and use of all these divine possessions. They must worship the god Chomdeo daily. In addition to daily worship, he explained that every year on Magh and Chat Sankranti, Chomdeo must be brought out and thoroughly washed with a mixture of milk and fragrant roots called Gathion. If you worship in this way in a virtuous manner, eight lakh gods will come down from heaven. Indra said that he would watch the worship from heaven. Sprinkle the bath water of Chomdeo on everyone and drink it with devotion. Never touch or look at Chomdeo. Never let others to touch and see either. If anyone else touches it or looks at it, there will be evil and epidemic in the land. Only the king who will have Chomdeo in his custody can see it once a year.

Since, no one could see Chomdeo, no one can say what Chomdeo really is. In the Ahom or Tai languages, the deity is called Chumcheng rather than Chomdeo or Chomcheng. Chumcheng means (chum-precious, cheng-poison)  precious-poison or gem. This Chomdeo-god is the national property of the Ahoms. No one has the right to it. Whoever ascends the throne is the one who takes care of Chomdeo. Therefore, Chomdeo was in the custody of Kandarpeswar Singha in Guwahati, the grandson of the last Ahom king Purananda Singha.

Where is Chomdeo now?

Where is Indra pradatta (conferred) Chomdeo, who has been worshiped by the Ahoms for hundreds of years, and in what condition is it now? What exactly is Chomdeo? It is made of  metal or combination of  precious stones. The description that rays come out of Chomdeo and snakes and tigers do not go near it gives the impression that Chomdeo is a very precious diamond. Although Chomdeo has been in Assam for thousands of years today, the material of Chomdeo has not been revealed. According to historian Hiteswar Barbarua, the lineage of Purananda Singh has disappeared and is still in the custody of the family of Prince Chandranarayan Singha of his brother's lineage. There are rules that no one can see Chomdeo and so, no one dares to see it. Therefore, no one can say with sure what Chomdeo really is and those who have seen it say nothing about it. So questions arises - is the chief idol given by Indra to the ancestors of the Ahoms still intact ?

However, according to legend, Khunlung and Khunlai was quarreled over who would be king of Mungrimungram. It is said that Khunlung stole the Chomdeo idol and fled to Indra in anger because Khunla conspired to become king, which was .  Later, Khunlung was made king of Mukhmunjao by Indra. However, there is no mention of Chomdeo idol.   Again it is found that when Chukapha came to Assam, he brought the Chomdeo with him.
